Atharvaveda Kanda 4 Anuvak 1 Mantras 1 to 7 present profound insights into the nature of the Supreme Being, the creation of the universe, and the establishment of divine order. These mantras explore the omnipotence and omnipresence of the Supreme God, often referred to as Kavirdev or Kabir Parmeshwar, who is the creator of all worlds and the ultimate source of all existence. They describe the manifestation of divine energy through various aspects, including the creation of cosmic laws, the establishment of both the higher and lower realms, and the guiding force behind the universe's intricate structure. These mantras also emphasize the supreme authority of the Creator, who governs the cosmic balance and leads souls towards liberation and eternal truth
Brahm ja jgyanam prathamam purasttat vi simatah surucho vena avah
Sah budhnya upama asya vishtah satash cha yonim asatash cha vi vah
The eternal (Brahm) Supreme God manifested Himself with divine wisdom (jgyanam) as the first creation (prathamam) in the highest realms (purasttat). He created vast and boundless realms, each illuminated by His own light (surucah) with great delight. Like a weaver (venah), He skillfully wove and secured all creations.
Translation: This Supreme God (sah) is the original Creator (budhnya), who established the ultimate realm (yonim) of Satlok, which is eternal. He also created temporary and fleeting realms (asatash) within the lower planes, each with their own boundaries.
Meaning: In this mantra, Brahm (Kaal) himself acknowledges that the Supreme God (Purna Brahm) is the original Creator. First appearing in Anami Lok, He then manifested in Satlok and, with divine intelligence, created all higher eternal realms. He also formed the temporary 700 quadrillion universes of ParBrahm and 21 universes of Brahm (Kaal), making it clear that He alone is the ultimate Creator and Sustainer of all existence.
Iyam pitraya rashtri etu agre prathamaya janushe bhuvaneshtah
Tasma etam surucham haramahyam dharmam shrinantu prathamaya dhasyave
Translation: (Iyam) This (pitraya) world-father (Parmeshwar) (rashtra) the supreme power of creation, (etu) this (agre) the foremost (prathamaya) first maya (paranandani) creation that brings ultimate bliss, (rashtra) the universal power (Parashakti) (janushe) created (bhuvaneshtah) for the establishment of the worlds. (Tasma) That same Parmeshwar (surucham) with great love and (haramahyam) to prevent separation between them (shriṇantu) always remain in the gravitational pull of divine law (dharma) woven as the eternal and unceasing universal force.
Meaning: The world-father Parmeshwar, through his word-power, created the supreme universal force of Parashakti, the first force of creation. Using this supreme force, he established the worlds, binding them through an attraction force that never ceases, ensuring the eternal and unbreakable connection between all things.
Pra yo jagye vidwanasya bandhur vishva devanam janima vivakti.
Brahma brahmano ujjabhar madhyanicair uccaih swadha abhi pra tasthau.
Translation: (Pra) First of all, (yo) the one (jagye) who knows the creation (vidwanasya) of the wise (bandhur) is the true companion, (vishva) of all the gods (devanam) and the origin of the universe (janima) revealed by (vivakti) the one who explains it in detail. (Brahma) the supreme (Brahman) created (ujjabhar) the manifest (madhyanicair) in the center (uccaih) above (swadha) the power of attraction, (abhi) with its support (pra tasthau) both the higher (Satyalok, Alakh Lok, etc.) and the lower (Parabrahms 7 Brahmandas and the 21 Brahmandas of Brahm) are firmly established.
Meaning: The supreme Parmeshwar (Brahm) Himself reveals the knowledge of creation and the origin of all the realms to His true servant and companion. He created and established the higher realms (Satyalok, Alakh Lok, etc.) and lower realms (the seven Brahmandas of Parabrahm and 21 Brahmandas of Brahm) through His supreme power of attraction.
Sa hi divah sa prithivya ritastha mahi kshemam rodasi askabhayat
Mahan mahi askabhayat vi jato dyan sapar parthivam ca rajah
Translation: (Sa) That same supreme, all-powerful Parmeshwar (Brahm) (hi) indeed (divah) the higher, divine realms such as Satyalok, Alakh Lok, Agam Lok, and Anami Lok, filled with divine qualities (ritastha) were stabilized in an eternal, imperishable form. (Sa) Similarly, (prithivya) the lower earthly realms, including Parabrahm’s seven Brahmandas and Brahm/Kal’s twenty-one Brahmandas (mahi) with the element of earth (kshemam) for their protection (askabhayat) were established firmly. (Rodasi) The celestial (akasha) and earthly elements (prithvi) both serve as the foundation for the realms above and below (mahan) The supreme Parmeshwar, (mahi) with the earth element (parthivam) created and sustained (vi) various (dhams) realms (ca) and (sadam) dwelling places (mahi) with the earth element, (rajah) the individual and smaller realms, and (jatah) stabilized them.
Meaning: The higher realms—Satyalok, Alakh Lok, Agam Lok, and Anami Lok—are created as eternal, imperishable, and unchanging by the supreme Parmeshwar (Brahm). Similarly, the lower realms, including Parabrahm's seven Brahmandas and Brahm/Kal's twenty-one Brahmandas, along with smaller realms, were created and stabilized using the element of earth and his supreme power. The entire creation, both above and below, is held firm by the supreme God’s influence.
Sa budhnyat aastra janushe abhyagram brhaspati devata tasya samrat
Aharyacchukram jyotisho janishtath dyumanto vi vasantu viprah
Translation: (Sa) From that same (budhnyat) the supreme master, (abhyagram) in the foremost position (aastra) the eight-armed goddess, Nature (Durga), was born, as the first position of the lower realms of Parabrahm and Brahm is Satyalok, also called the third abode (janushe) being produced by her, because (tasya) her master (samrat) is the King of Kings, (brhaspati) the greatest husband and world teacher (devata) the Supreme God (Parmeshwar). (Yat) From which (ah) all separation occurred, (ath) thereafter (jyotisho) in the form of light, the unchanging force of time (shukram) with the seed-power (virya) (janisht) came into being from Durga's womb, and (viprah) the devout souls, (vi) separately, (dyumantah) in the human and celestial realms, upon the command of Jyotir Niranjan (time/kal), (vasantu) took residence.
Meaning: The Supreme Parmeshwar created Durga (Aastra), the eight-armed goddess, in Satyalok, the highest of the divine realms. This is where the origin of the lowest realms (from Parabrahm and Brahm) begins. Durga, as the Goddess of Nature, is governed by the Supreme God, who is also the King of Kings and the Teacher of the World. From her womb, with the seed-power of the divine light of Jyotir Niranjan (Time/Kal), all beings were born, and they began to inhabit the celestial and earthly realms.
Nunam tat asya kavyah hinoiti maho devasya pooryasya dham
Esh jajne bahubhi sakamittha poorve ardhye vishite sasan nu
Translation: (Nunam) Without a doubt, (tat) that Supreme God, meaning that Brahm, (asya) this (kavyah) devotee, who faithfully worships the Supreme God, (hinoiti) sends back to (maho) the all-powerful (devasya) Supreme God’s (pooryasya) former (dham) realm, meaning to Satyalok.
(Es) This Supreme God, (jajne) knowing the knowledge of creation and origin, (bahubhi) with much joy (sakam) together, (ithha) in this manner (poorve) to the previous realm (vishite) particularly desired (ardhe) as half, (sasan) sleep-like, (nu) truthfully praises the Supreme Being.
Meaning: The Supreme God sends back the devoted soul who faithfully worships Him to the original realm, Satyalok, from where it originally came. Upon reaching that state, the soul, filled with joy and true devotion, praises the Supreme God, realizing the true abode after countless wanderings. The same is echoed in Rigveda Mandal 10 Sukt 90 Mantra 16. This is also experienced by the esteemed Guru Garibdas Ji, who was personally taken by Kabir Parmeshwar (Kavir Dev) to Satyalok, where he saw the truth and expressed in his divine words:
"Garib, ajab nagar mein le gaye, hamkun satguru aan.
Jhilke bimb agadh gati, sute chadar taan."
Yo atharvanam pittaram devabandhum brihaspatim namasa av gachhat
Tvam vishwesham janita yathasah kavirdevo na dabhayat swadhavan
Translation: (Ya) He who (atharvanam) the eternal and imperishable (pittaram) world father (devabandhum) the true companion of devotees, the foundation of the soul, (brihaspatim) the supreme teacher of the world, (namasa) with humility, (av) with protection, (gachhat) goes to Satyalok, those who have attained complete liberation, having gone to Satyalok. (Tvam) You, the creator of (vishwesham) all the universes, (janita) the one who creates, (yathasah) just as (sah) he (kavirdevo) is known as Kavirdev, (na dabhayat) like time (kal), does not deceive, (swadhavan) one with qualities, (yatha) just as (sah) he is.
Meaning: This mantra clearly identifies that the Supreme God’s name is Kavirdev (Kabir Parmeshwar), the creator of all creation.
The Supreme God, who is immutable and truly imperishable (as confirmed in Gita Chapter 15, Verses 16-17), the world teacher, the foundation of the soul, and the one who has attained ultimate liberation and gone to Satyalok, leads others to the same. He is the creator of all universes and is like time (Kal), who does not deceive. He is the one who, in his true form, is referred to as Kavirdev, also known as Kabir, and is the same Supreme God. This divine being, who brings creation into existence through his word power, is referred to as both the mother and the father of the universe, the true companion, and also the deity. Therefore, we sing praises of this Kavirdev (Kabir Parmeshwar). This is why the hymn "Tvamev Mata cha Pita tvamev, tvamev bandhu cha sakha tvamev, tvamev vidya cha dravinam tvamev, tvamev sarvam mam dev dev" is dedicated to him. This Supreme God’s glory is elaborated in detail in Rigveda Mandal 1 Sukt 24.
